Blackhouse comprises a two-storey timber clad extension to a detached dwelling situated in Bødalen, Norway.
With an expanding body of work in Norway, Collective Works were approached to extend to existing property to provide more accommodation to both the basement and ground floor of the house. This already large family required further space to accomodate guests and also covered external space to benefit from sunny afternoons.
The house had recently been renovated and so much of our work focused on the new extension that we sought to marry with the existing through our use of materials. To contrast with the low ceilings in the existing dwelling, the proposal offers a large double height space which seeks to get light deep into the building.
