Build it together: Women in Architecture
< Back to InsightsThe recent Fawcett Society/RIBA Build it Together report highlights how challenges for women in architecture have persisted over the last 20 years, despite many efforts to dismantle entrenched inequalities. We agree with their conclusion:
“A profession that champions gender equity ultimately champions everyone.”
At Collective Works, we’ve always believed that a diverse workforce with a strong sense of belonging will have more innovative ideas and work together longer.

Our practice is both female-led, global majority-led, and gender balanced. We also understand that if our studio reflects the communities we serve, everyone will achieve better outcomes. That’s just one of the reasons why we champion our women leaders and are working to reduce our gender pay gap.
Flexibility has always been our standard, with a remote-work policy in place long before Covid. This approach allows our staff to balance their careers with parenting. 60% of us have children, and we regularly revisit our office culture to ensure an inclusive environment. As Xanthe, one of our Architects, puts it: “We have genuine interest and care for each other’s differences.”
In our projects, we enjoy working on publicly accessible, socially engaged spaces alongside our sustainable homes. Currently on the drawing board, we’re excited about two sports clubs, two health retreats, and a tenants’ resident association. All of these are being designed as inclusive spaces that consider the needs of women and girls.
Over on Linkedin, in response to International Women’s Day 2026 and to build on this, we’ll be sharing stories from some of our respected female clients and colleagues.
Let’s have a chat about your vision and
how we can help you realise it.
