“It’s about restoring communities” | Alasdair on regenerative architecture in Architecture Today
< Back to InsightsIn this month’s Architecture Today, Alasdair Ben Dixon shares “why regenerative design is about far more than environmental performance – it’s about restoring communities, embracing collaboration over competition and aligning purpose with practice.”
Architecture Today spoke to 10 architects who are ‘Reinventing Practice’ with the ambition of acting more regeneratively. They each discuss the challenges they face, holding up a mirror to the wider challenges of the profession. Each of the architects has been photographed by Timothy Soar in this latest series of photos that he sees as a record of the profession, and the world, in transition.
Alasdair reflects on the communities he is part of – from the ecologically and socially minded communities that use The Remakery, to the architectural community that is working together, and separately, to embrace regenerative design and our own Collective Works community of coworkers, collaborators and clients.
You can read the whole interview – alongside those with other key members of the Regenerative Architecture Community – on Architecture Today.

Last year, Collective Works was listed in the inaugural Regenerative Architecture Index, and we’re currently updating our entry for this year’s list. Each of the practices in the Index shared how they are working towards regenerative design through their projects, practice and relationship to nature. Hopefully others have been inspired to shift towards regenerative thinking as a result.
