Elephant Townhouse

< Back to projects

Following the successful interior renovation of the Grade II listed Elephant House in Southwark, Collective Works was commissioned to design a modern townhouse on the adjacent property owned by the same client.

Collective Works designed a three bedroom townhouse with generous amenities for a family on the vacant 49m2 plot. The townhouse is over five floors and enjoys daylight from three directions as well as views to the Shard, is designed to lifetime homes standards, and is subservient to the neighbouring listed building.

The design takes inspiration from the proportions, colours and materials of Elephant House to create a respectful yet contemporary neighbouring property. It is designed with modern windows of classic proportions and carefully detailed brick screens that let in more daylight while securing privacy. The modern and practical dwelling is carefully developed to be respectful of the neighbouring heritage asset and will be a graceful addition to the streetscape on Victory place. The project has been granted planning permission & will be built in 2017.
