Alasdair joins the RIBA Ethics Committee
< Back to InsightsThe RIBA has announced the appointment of new members to the Ethics Committee, Alasdair Ben Dixon joins the 11 person committee, chaired by Johnathan Rees.

The RIBA Ethics Committee is tasked with setting professional standards of the RIBA and overseeing its conduct function. Its responsibilities encompass establishing codes of conduct for members and Chartered Practices, overseeing compliance with declarations, and determining disciplinary procedures for conduct issues, including taking disciplinary actions such as investigations, suspensions and removals. Additionally, it establishes professional competency criteria for various member types, and defines the Continuing Professional Development ( CPD) compliance policy.
The RIBA said “We are appointing our new Committee members at an unprecedented time. The world needs architects to be at their best, to help facilitate and lead the realisation of the most appropriate solutions that respond to the problems, commitments and aspirations that shape our collective futures. The changing regulatory and operational landscape in the wake of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the impact of the current pandemic on how and where we live and work, the UK’s EU-departure and the implications of Net Zero Carbon targets are examples of major shifts that demand our attention. We are also addressing some important cultural issues in our profession and have a responsibility to do so. Ultimately, we must be a role model for our profession and demonstrate our values so that our voice is authentic and credible to make a positive difference.”
Alasdair said “I’m honoured to be joining this committee, especially in the present moment as our profession adapts to significant internal pressures and external challenges. As a practice we’ve always aspired to higher standards and engaged carefully with the ethics of our work. I’ll be bringing that practice experience to the committee, and supporting them in creating very necessary change.”
He was previously a member of the RIBA’s Ethics and Sustainable Development Commission and recently published the Ethical Practice Guide for the RIBA. He is also a Steering Group Member of UK Architects Declare. Alasdair has a long held commitment to finding a better way for built environment professionals to balance their duties to clients with their duties to society, the planet, their staff, the profession and themselves. In 2024 he was shortlisted for the Property Week Edge Award for ESG Leader of the Year.
