BADU Centre of Excellence

The BADU Centre of Excellence is a sports facility which aims to transform the UK elite sports pathway and empower more women, especially from diverse backgrounds, to flourish.

To support this mission BADU have developed proposals to resurface the existing pitches at Gainsborough and provide 3 Tennis Courts, 2 Netball Courts, and a Basketball Court. To ensure these facilities can be used throughout the year the scheme includes a single all-weather sports canopy which will provide cover for the newly resurfaced courts as well as the existing 5-a-side pitch and basketball court.

While the playing field will be elite quality space to play, support facilities are key to the success of players.

The clubhouse building will house a gym, learning space, office and changing spaces. These will be combined under one roof with a separate existing toilet block undergoing a light refurbishment. The facilities will need to be robust, and the design sustainable. We have sourced recycled and reusable materials that will stand the test of time, but have a low impact now – respecting the world that these athletes will grow up into. The spaces will be adaptable, and multi purpose – allowing the Centre of Excellence to play host to a wide variety of events, and change over time as it grows.

We joined BADU for a fundraising  sports day, to share our vision for the Centre of Excellence and participate in the sports. All proceeds went towards the building of the centre.
