After successfully converting a Grade II listed building into three separate flats, our client asked us what could be done with a small plot of land adjacent to the building. The site was on a quiet street within Elephant & Castle with a potential view to the famed Shard.
With a footprint of just 49 sqm, we knew that a new building on that site would be a challenge. Add to that the need to respect a listed neighbour and we certainly had to come up with fresh ideas.
Using our experience of building design in Tokyo, we employed a split-level approach to the floors. This plus a new basement created a wonderfully daylight townhouse of three bedrooms and generous amenities for a family. It was designed to Lifetime Homes standards and had a special roof terrace that could benefit from the exceptional views.
