Public Sector
Working with your community
For us, the difference a project will make goes far beyond just providing good design. It means working hand in hand with the community the building will serve.
We understand the diverse challenges and high aspirations of both third sector and public sector organisations and have enjoyed collaborating with a wide range of charities, community interest companies, education providers, trusts, advocacy groups and NHS service providers to deliver projects that engage, comfort, empower and have a positive impact.
As architects, we’re your partners in creating spaces that empower your mission, maximise your social impact and build bridges in your community. We’ve always wanted our work to be for good and enjoy working with value-aligned clients and their wider communities to achieve this.
Your challenges are our priorities
Limited budgets
We’re experts in designing impactful spaces within constraints. Our experience with grant funding, time limited funding and cost effective solutions ensures every penny counts.
Complex stakeholder needs
From funders to beneficiaries, navigating diverse needs is our speciality. We excel in collaborative processes and open communication, ensuring everyone is heard.
Regulatory compliance
We stay up to date with the latest developments in building regulations and sustainability guidance, which may constrain your project, but also provide opportunities for innovation and future peace of mind. We can act as Principal Designer for your project.
Sustainability
We believe in responsible and beautiful design that has the minimum impact on the environment. We offer expertise in low carbon design and renewable energy, to keep your carbon footprint and energy costs low.

Ethical Practice
We at Collective Works are committed to operating an Ethical practice, both in the way it is run, and the work we produce
We are a signatory to Architects Declare, and the UN Race to Zero. Our mission – Responsible and Beautiful Design embraces participatory design, low carbon thinking and post occupancy evaluations to ensure our projects are performing as we expected and that best practice informs subsequent projects.
From its inception, Collective Works has embraced diversity and inclusion. We have female and global ethnic majority partners and are members of the Paradigm Network and are committed to balancing gender and ethnic pay gaps.
Advocacy
As a small practice, our projects have relatively limited impact. However, beyond the practice we call for changes in the profession and encourage more collective action. As part of that advocacy, Alasdair Ben Dixon co-authored the RIBA’s Ethical Practice guide, with Carys Rowlands.
